Industry
PMDL constantly strives to translate high quality research results from the laboratory optical table to the development bench of a company, promoting a productive innovation culture. Our research demonstrations are usually developed up to TRL 4 (TRL 5 upon case), in conjunction with the actual needs of the industrial parties interested. Our mentality is particularly inclusive for SMEs, which may not have direct access to vital photonic know-how, R&D and large scale processing and characterization facilities. Our research competences include those of optical fiber sensors (indicatively: E/M fields measurements, sensors for harsh environments, rehabilitation/health/biomedical applications, vapor/gas sensing, edible oil quality test, structural health monitoring), laser micro-/nano-structuring of optical materials and devices, surface functionalization and optofluidics. Further competencies and topics for potential collaboration and know-how transfer can be found in sections Research and Publications.
Powerful tools for fostering development and innovation collaborations with industrial players with PMDL as a core player, are those of H2020 European projects ACTPHAST and ACTPHAST 4.0 (Nov. 2017 onwards) and the LaserLab Europe funding scheme and supported world class facilities. Niche synergies for serving greater parts of specific value chains can be sought in collaboration with H-PHOS photonic cluster.
