Our work on “ Bioresorbable optical fiber Bragg gratings” in collaboration with the Politecnico di Torino was highlighted by OSA The Optical Society with a news release.

The work of Eirini Tagoudi (now at EPFL) and Karolina Milenko (now at NTNU ) on “Intercore Coupling Effects in Multicore Optical Fiber Tapers Using Magnetic Fluid Out-Claddings” http://ieeexplore.ieee.org/document/7588147/ has been highlighted as a front cover of IEEE/OSA Journal of Lightwave Technology, for the issues 21-24, 2016.

Warm congratulations to our post-doctoral fellows Dr Ioannis Konidakis and Dr Kyriaki Kosma for their successful applications in the IKY Fellowships of Excellence for Postgraduate Studies in Greece- Siemens Program, funding their research for two years, January 2014 onwards. Dr Konidakis research is focused on glass and crystalline media infiltrated photonic crystal fibres, while Dr Kosmas research spans over the development of whispering gallery mode resonators inside microstructured optical fibres.

SPIE Newsroom, Ferrofluid-infiltrated optical fibers for shear-sensing smart pads
Congratulations to Alessandro Candiani, a visiting PhD student from the research group of Stefano Selleri, University of Parma, Italy for being awarded the "BEST STUDENT PAPER AWARD" in the topic of Micro-structured and Specialty Optical Fibres " during the SPIE Photonics Europe conference, held in Brussels 16-19 April 2012. The work highlighted was the “A grating-less in-fibre magnetometer realized in a polymer-MOF infiltrated using ferrofluid”written by A. Candiani, A. Argyros, R. Lwin, S. G. Leon-Saval, G. Zito, S. Selleri, S. Pissadakis, while being developed in the Photonics Materials and Devices Laboratory, FORTH-IESL.
